Exploring Career Options

Possible Careers and Occupations

My 2 main occupations that I have chosen to work towards is a Police Officer in the QPS or a Forensic Scientist.

These occupations interest me the most as this is an exciting field to me and I feel that because I both love these ideas and my skills will help me to work towards it even further. This occupation will most likely not be greatly affected by the advance of the working world as a police officer is not a career that will be easily left out and that provides me with security in aiming to accomplish this.

In order to accomplish this, I am not required to attend university but I am planning on taking a Bachelor degree in either Criminology and Criminal Justice or that joined with Forensic Science to further my understanding and skill in that field. The degree I am aiming for is Bachelor of Criminology and Criminal Justice/Forensics Science and is offered at Griffith University with an OP 16 entry and guaranteed entry of OP 6. The prerequisites to get into this course that I will need to take in senior school is English and Maths B. Another degree I am very interested in is the Bachelor of Justice at QUT. It has an OP 12 entry level and this degree only has assumed knowledge of English and no prerequisites.

I will need to apply and attend the QPS academy. To prepare myself while I am here at school, I am taking both prerequisites that are needed for courses as well as extra Legal Studies and Chemistry to prepare myself for university and the workforce,

My Goals; Vision Board

Vision for the Future

This vision board represents my major life goals that I intend to achieve in my life and as I grow up. It includes my goals to apply for university and achieve a Bachelor of Criminology and Justice/Forensics Science at Griffith University. It has my aim to continue my volunteer work at multiple animal organisations and pet stores. I intend to continue collecting souvenirs as well as travelling around the world after high school and build my snow globe collection to an even larger size. I hope to have a large book collection as reading is always going to be an important part of my life. It expresses my hopes of recruiting into the police force and work my into law enforcement and forensic science and my intention of becoming a detective within the system. I am hoping to study abroad at any time while at university and hopefully travel to Canada, the United States or in Europe. I am hoping to get married and have children and start a family as well as adopt animals and pets within it. This board is my vision for my future.

Trends of the Future Blog Entry

Tuesday - 21/06/2016

Out of this session what I found most interesting was the new developments that were being made and how they were changing the jobs. It was interesting to learn about which jobs would be more common in the future and which would be decreasing throughout the future. I am very comfortable with the Information Technology area as I use new and upgraded technology daily and am still continuing to learn new programs, software, techniques and basics or the modern advancement of technology. The most interesting infographic shown for me was the data representing that over 75%if jobs and careers would contain advanced knowledge or either science, mathematics, technology or engineering and I was fascinated about how far society has advanced for these aspects to be the most important skills for future careers, Out of the top 3 growth industries, I was surprised by the health care and social assistance and how after the current retiring generation is completely out of the workforce, just how many jobs will be open due to them leaving the workforce as well as them requiring more of us to help in the new careers and workforce. Out of the tertiary qualified jobs and the vocational trade jobs, I do not lean towards either as the career in which I am aiming for was not listed in these but may also not be affected by this growth as it is not a career that can be easily reduced. I believe that knowing this information and learning about the trends and the future of the workforce is incredibly important when searching for an appropriate career as you may come across a career that you prefer only for it to be demolished before you can join it.

Quiz 3. Job Outlook Career Quiz

http://joboutlook.gov.au/careerquiz.aspx

Monday - 20/06/2016

Reflection:
This quiz is the Job Outlook Career Quiz and it identifies the type of work that you most enjoy doing despite your current qualifications. The outcome of this quiz was both 1 for practical and technical, 0 for creativity, 2 for administrating, 4 for people and 7 for helping others. These results are reasonably accurate as I have more of a practical personality than a creative one and I wish to further a career which allows me to both interact with a large variety of people as well as helping people. The strengths that it identified for me included my communication and interaction skills with other people as well as my aim to help people in my career. The types of careers that are recommended for me based of these results include good skills in practicality and logical reasoning and very little creative or imaginative thinking, I am quite happy with these recommended career paths as they all align perfectly with my goals for my career in the future. I wouldn't recommend this quiz to a friend simply because it doesn't give a wide variety of information or extra results about the outcome of the quiz.

Quiz 2. Dewey Colour Career Counsellor

http://www.deweycolorsystem.com/tests/color-career-counselor/

Monday - 20/06/2016

Reflection:
This quiz was the Dewey Colour Career Counselor Quiz and uses colour preference to determine the most successful career paths for you. The outcome for this quiz was 2 possible appropriate career paths and were and organiser and a persuader and both these paths require practical, ambitious and sociable qualities and skills. This outcome was pretty accurate as I aim to take my career using these skills to help others and it will give me a position of leadership and power that will allow me to help others and to have a large range of social interaction with the public. The strengths that were identified for me included self control and orderly qualities as well as argumentative and competitive natures. The types of careers that this directed me to was careers where I would be able to maintain a structured chain of command and have continuous organisation and planning as well as positions that allow me to lead, persuade and sell to others. I am happy with these paths as it suits my personality and what I aim to accomplish in the future. I wouldn't recommend this quiz to a friend only because I do not believe that colour preference always contributes to people's personalities.

Quiz 1. 16 Personalities

https://www.16personalities.com/free-personality-test

Monday - 20/06/2016

Reflection:
This quiz was the 16 Personalities Quiz that determines your strengths, weaknesses and a description of who you are. The outcome of this quiz was ESFJ which is the personality that are expressed strongly through practical sense and social vigor and this type of personality makes up 12% of the population. They enjoy organising social events, supporting their loved ones and ensuring everyone is happy. This outcome I think was reasonably accurate as in the future I plan to accomplish things that make a difference and help others both directly and indirectly. The strengths that were identified for me included my good connection with other people, strong sense of practical skills and a strong sense of duty, loyalty, sensitivity and warm nature. The careers that this information indicates my personality towards are environments that allow me to organise and plan out my surroundings and in areas that allow them to feel a sense of accomplishment and appreciating of having helped someone. I am happy that my personality suits those types of jobs as in the future I wish to go into law enforcement with those basic goals in mind and aiming to help as many people as I can. I would definitely recommend this quiz to a friend as it gives a wide variety of information about your personality and about who you are.
